How Azure Began

Best friends since high school, Sameer and I (Miya) began Azure as a way to hold onto a glimpse of creativity within our dull corporate jobs. Azure was inspired by a tiny street in Laguna Beach, Orange County, where we grew up, and a lookout point we’ve frequented since 2020, a time when the world felt like it needed places like that more than ever. Azure represents the beauty, slowness, and grounding feeling that Laguna Beach emanates. It also means “blue,” in different variations, across multiple languages.

What started as Sameer and me exchanging text messages about fun new ways to make matcha, our controversial cold-whisking take, and doing photoshoots just for fun organically turned into a full-blown business. Matcha offered something real to us: a grounding ritual and a slower, more deliberate start to the day. Long before Azure had a name, that was the philosophy behind it.

It’s been truly gratifying to see Azure grow from a small test kitchen in our apartments to full-blown professional events, product curation, and a MATCHA RESIDENCY AT AVENTURA MALL.

For a long time, Azure existed entirely in the margins: nights, weekends, and the hours between one obligation and the next. There were office days that ended in kitchens, weekends built around pop-ups, and more than a few flights between Miami and New York. It wasn’t particularly glamorous, but it’s simply what building something we genuinely care about looks like.

Eventually, Sameer left corporate life to focus on Azure and freelance creative curation work full-time (and is absolutely killing it). I’m still moving between two worlds, though goodbye corporate life, hello start-up world: weekdays in tech, leading product enablement and customer success across SEO + AEO optimization, and weeknights and weekends building Azure alongside him. He is our on-the-ground powerhouse!!!

Azure has always been built around our lives, our friendship, and the belief that the best things are worth taking time with.

In August 2026, Azure’s first batch began making its way across Miami through local delivery. Our tins are now expanding more widely online through the end of the year, followed by a broader product line in early 2027.

Until then, Azure can still be found the way it began: at pop-ups across Miami, Los Angeles, and New York, one matcha at a time.

We love you all. Thank you for all the support. So, SO much more to come! Xoxoxoxoxo Love, Miya & Sameer xx
